Holes are for weight saving I guess?

Thanks for posting. I always thought the DMR had some kind of Brookfield-type mount.

I just saw this thread yesterday at the CMP forum.....

      http://forums.thecmp.org/showthread.php?t=177364

It's a guy's tribute to SFC Shughart. Nice M14 and it has the Brookfield mount if anyone is interested in seeing how it differs.
"...But they would never find anything to beat the old Springfield ...the long sleek streamline, very slim but with potent bulges, all in the just exactly right places to give it that pugnaciously forward-leaning, eager look that marked the Springfield. Beside it, the M1 looked like a fat old man puffing with a lack of training...the two most beautiful things made in America were the ax-handle and the clipper ship? ...they should have added one more thing: The Springfield '03 rifle..."

What are the correct scope rings for the DMR set up in the picture ?

Original rings are GG&G. But I heard they had problems with them, so they stopped using it. GW will confirm if I'm right or wrong.

I think they also used ARMS and Smith. And the Badger 30 mm USMC DMR Scope Ring (1.031") #306-28.

From looking at the pictures I thought the rings looked like Badger wasnt sure , does anyone know if the Bausch& Lomb 10x40 was ever used on the USMC DMR ?

I dont think so. I've never seen it except on SEALs guns (XM25 and M91A2).

I wonder when they switched to Badger. They used GG&G before. GW; ever heard of problems with the GG&G rings?

Right. The Army uses variable scopes; MK4 3.5-10x40 M3 if I remember correctly.

There are two variations that I know of. An early one and the later ones. Varies on the split verses a full length rail, GG&G Markings, and lightning holes.

This is the early one with the split rail. These will be difficult to find as 250 were delivered to the USMC, and of the 10-15 or so of the over runs I ended up with two of them. I know where one other is, and I have a standing offer for it. The USMC has a very nasty habit of now TIG welding these mounts to the M14 receivers. Found this on the M14 forum ,geoff3

I love your mounts. Thanks for sharing. Can you cover the significance of the five line receivers please?
