This is in a box with my name on it somewhere between PA and MA...Its going to take another trip to GunBlack so as to get rid of all that icky bluing in exchange for some "ParkoLube".

Thinking a 512T sling swivel will be just the thing for that mil surp butt stock.

Apparently the Remingtons didn't have the 4 or 6 row metal holed heat shields, and they had a wooden barrel cover instead (something I didn't know, I have never seen a real Remington):

Thats a Model 10 bayonet adapter...close, similar, certainly where they derived the Mk I adapter from. Excellent lead, thank you.

I should message them and see if they will build a run of Mk I adapters.

Try contacting forum member 'M1sniper' here or over on the M14 Forum. He's into SEAL Ithaca's but I think he had a line on this very accessory a while ago. Other than that, using the search feature on the M14 Forum will probably yield a result.

Hi pm, got your message thru the snipershide forum. I rarely go there so it was a surprise to see an email saying there was a message for me. My reply was that a Buddy of mine on arfcom was selling some 870 and Stevens 77 trench gun parts, I shot him an email but he does not have what you need. I'm going to contact my other Buddy who has access to a Crane dumping ground where my duckbill M37 parts came from and see if he's come across what you need. Below shows a demilled M37 barrel with good ducky,, mag extension clamp,,, and bad mag extension. I was able to straighten out the mag extension. I bought a 2nd correct 20 in CYL barrel, removed the original barrel seen on bottom with the complete shotty.The 2nd demilled barrel had the extremely rare side swivel,, so, mix and match the best pieces, remove ducky from demilled barrel, fit and braze it to new barrel, a lil parkerizing, and wa la. replica USN SEAL duckbill shotty. BTW the SN of the donor shotty is a 1967 with no hunting scenes on the receiver. Excellent + condition with what appeared to be the original parking on it. I'll keep you posted if my Buddy comes across your adaptor.

What exactly was the advantage of the duckbill, some sort of choke/flash hider combo?

Imagine walking through bush at the ready might have been an issue, was that "snagging" problem why the added the "ring"?

No problem. I know what it's like to be "on the hunt" for parts.
The duckbill is actually a "shot spreader" #4 hardened lead shot was used. The spread, instead of being a round pattern would come out in a more horizontal, almost football shape.

PS, adding the ring "may" have been partially due to snagging, but see pic below and is more likely the reason, cracks at the corner of the bills could develop.. There are 3 variations of the SEAL duckbill. I have 2 of the 3. The 1st without the ring already shown above, and the 3rd type now mounted on another correct 20 in CYL donor barrel. Pic 2 shows another type 3 (missing the ring tho) I have on top, middle is the type 3 with ring as received. The complete Type 3 duckie was removed from the demilled barrel and installed on the parked barrel shown on the bottom of pic 3... I have several of the barrel/mag extension clamps, 3 or 4 mag extension tubes that have been straightened, parked and are perfectly usable,, 2 more type 1 duckies and 1 more type 3 ducky. On the hunt for at least 1 type 2 with ring. Plan is to build an American walnut shadow box and display the shotty to include the original take-off barrel,,, and all 3 variations complete barrel assemblies lined up.

Found some info demonstrating the effect the duck had on patterning and it seems to have made for a great use to allow for "twofers" even "threefers" when suddenly presented with enemies.

pmc, Nice work on that stock.

The early rear sight you require was used all across the early Remington rifle offerings (700-740-742-760), so you shouldn't encounter much of a problem finding one. The mount/base hole spacing is standardized, so it will be a straight swap. Only disadvantage to this style forearm is that it completely blocks off the magazine loading port at the rearward position of the ejection stroke, requiring the first round go directly into the ejection port for chambering and then reloading the magazine.

Posting a WTB in the M14 Forum Classifieds might expedite your search results.

Rear Swivel is the same as the M40 uses, I believe, so sourcing one of those shouldn't be a problem.

Stock work continues, not done yet. Its getting more oil and as much sun as possible to turn red with sunburn. I have a 513T sling swivel to fit on the stock when its done.

Okay Im learning something good here.

I had an idea to get a regular2-3/4 chamber 12 gauge barrel and cut it to length than solder my sights on from the twenty inch barrel. I didnt consider the early rear sight with the elevator slide might be something I could get off a shot out R700.

If I could get a "beaded" bayonet adapter the front sight from my barrel could be used to replace the bead.

This project kind of fell in my lap when the shotgun caught my eye than the wood popped up on Ebay.

There is a ton I dont know about them but really there is not a lot to them.

In his sale description he mentioned the bolt, action tube/bars being "black oxide". I was going to get them blued but have now decided "BO".

Everything is in a flat rate box addressed to Gunblack. It should mail today.

Ill get the shotgun functional and keep searching for a barrel and adapter.
