    HELR (High Energy, Low Reflective) lens coating, which is Magnesium Fluoride. This was the original coating, if my source is correct, but replacement lenses may have had other coatings.
    You can take a Marine out of the Corps, but you can't take the Corps out of a Marine.

      The MGFL was the mag flouride coating. I have 3 spotting scopes that are MGFL. A buddy of mine has a HELR spotting scope. We compared them at different times during the day and the only time we thought that the HELR beat out the MGFL was at dusk right before it got dark.
