I'm I Trippin'?

Hey guys,
I mounted my scope to my rifle and everything seems fine. However, I noticed something a little odd while comparing my rifle to others. The gap between the scope and rifle starts to slant downward towards the barrel. When I see other m40's I don't see this. I see the scope and barrel leveled with each other. It's not much of a slant, I just want to make sure I'm not trippin'.

Slant Does not look to be an optical illusion. Mine does not have that cant. Is your mount an original or repop? Seated properly? Raven’s opinion would be a good assessment……

The mount is a repo from TwoMan but I had the base fitted to my action by a local gunsmith. I contacted TwoMan and told him the issue I was having. He was kind enough to come by and pick up my barrelled action. He saw some issues with the fitment and is going to fix it. I'll post an update

What letter prefix is your action? Earlier Remington 700s as those used on the M40s and M40A1s had lower rear bridges in the action.

So my rifle was built by GA Precision with RRXXXXXM on the action. TwoMan did mention about earlier models. I'll read up on Snipershide. Thank you.

I would have sent it to GAP but I had issues with mailing it to them. USPS, UPS and Fedex were giving me issues for not providing them with a FFL number. GAP didn't get back to me with that info until a week later. Twoman conveniently lives near by and he offered to pick it up from me.

It's pretty obvious the base is slanted from back to front just by looking at the pictures you posted. I would say there is a real good chance there is a small radius at the rear of the back lug on the base keeping the base from making full contact at the rear bridge of the action.

Hey Raven, Thank you for your input. After taking the base apart, I did notice the rear on the base for not milled correctly. It's currently being fixed with a new base and the correct clip slot.

I think the rings are too low altogether. There should not be contact between the scope and mount on the ocular end.

The picture make it look like it's touching but I can slide a piece of paper in-between.

Hey guys. Got my BA back from TwoMan. He milled the receiver for the correct clip slot and mounted a completely new base and it looks great. However, when mounting my scope in the upright position, I'm still getting a slant. So, I got curious and mounted the scope on its side, no slant. Almost hate to say it but issues with the scope?
