Getting parts gathered for an M40A3 build. Trying to figure out optics. Prices for a CMP Unertl 10x are around the same as an S&B. I know a new S&B will be fantastic glass but having an original Unertl 10x keeps pulling at me. My question is would I be disappointed with an original 10x over the S&B for roughly the same price? I pretty sure I know the answer but just wanted other opinions and experiences. Thanks.

Kind of an apple vs. oranges comparison in my opinion. I think you have to decide which look you’re going for and build accordingly. If you’re indifferent and only considering glass clarity / functionality, then I think the choice is clear. -

The unertls I’ve gotten from cmp have real decent glass. Plenty good for my tastes. At some point the unertls will dry up so there’s that consideration. All that said, the Sb is one of my favorite scopes ever. Great field of view. Great glass.
